While residential garage doors may have relatively few safety requirements before they are deemed good to go, industrial garage doors, due to their heavier frames and heavier usage, have far stricter safety requirements to meet before they are considered safe to use and be around.
- More than one entrapment protection device. Entrapment protection devices are there to make sure that your industrial garage doors do not close on top of someone. These can be things like floor sensors and automatic reversal being built into the garage. Because of their heavier weight, an industrial door without these safety precautions can be a far greater danger to the people around it if it does something unexpected.
- They must comply with Underwriters Laboratory’s standards. UL325 lays out a number of safety guidelines to make sure that industrial garage doors are operating within agreed-upon safety parameters.
- Controls are at least a few feet away. Again, due to the weight of your typical industrial garage door, it can be dangerous to be too close to it while it is closing. Because of this, the controls to operate the garage door should be placed away from the door to ensure that whoever is operating the door can’t be accidentally caught in it when the door closes.
By complying with these requirements, you as a business owner can ensure that your workplace remains a safe one, full of productive workdays instead of workers who are in jeopardy of unexpected injuries.
